Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Core
The mission of the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Core (BMSC) is to foster the use of biomolecular mass spectrometry to measure reporters of the exposome, (e.g., proteome, lipidome, metabolome and adductome) as biomarkers of exposure, adverse response, outcome, and therapeutic response for diseases of environmental etiology. The BMSC provides CEET investigators, CEC members and their community partners with assays for measuring environmental samples, and a large range of biomarkers of exposure and effect in biospecimens.

Research SpecialistCore Services
The BMSC is equipped with state-of-the-art ultraperformance liquid chromatography (UPLC)-MS and UPLC-high resolution (HR) MS instrumentation. It is also equipped with an ion-chromatography system coupled to inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-MS for heavy metal analysis with speciation. In the Core untargeted approaches are followed by targeted LC-MS assays. Our targeted LC-MS assays use stable-isotope dilution (SID) LC-MS as the gold standard for precision and accuracy. We provide access and training to use state-of-the-art analytical equipment and software, for CEET investigators and their trainees, through monthly training sessions and annual workshops.

Request Service
The BMSC provides bioanalytical services primarily based on LC-MS, ultraperformance (UPLC)-MS, and UPLC-high resolution (HR) MS methodology. These technologies are employed for assays that have already been developed and new assays that are developed at the request of CEET investigators. The BMSC supports biomarker analysis on biospecimens provided by studies designed and initiated by the TRSC. The integration of genomic, proteomic and metabolomics biomarkers through EHIC offers the promise to deliver new diagnostic and prognostic indicators.
