Air Pollution & Lung Health

Regional Concerns:

  • Non-compliant with National Ambient Air Quality Standards
  • Ozone levels in the unhealthy range 33/365 days per year
  • 23% of children and 16% percent of adults have asthma

The Air Pollution and Lung Health (AP) thematic area elucidates the link between environmental exposures and lung disease to improve lung health across the lifespan. The AP team, led by Dr. Sharon McGrath-Morrow, leverages nationally recognized faculty in exposure assessment, lung biology and pathophysiology, and patient-oriented research and community engagement to reduce the burden of lung disease in our region.
