We're excited to announce our new Center Members!

Hand reaching out for a handshake

Angela Aherrera, PhD
Assistant Professor of Epidemiology

Dr. Angela Aherrera received her DrPH from Johns Hopkins University. Her research expertise is in exposure assessment and environmental epidemiology on heavy metals, microplastics and other exposures from certain industries (i.e., tobacco e-cigarette, apparel) and how they impact consumers/workers’ health. She has studied respiratory, developmental, and cardiovascular health outcomes. She has been awarded a K99/R00 grant from NIEHS to examine metal and aldehyde exposure from e-cigarette use in young adults.

Kristin Gerson, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Maternal Fetal Medicine)
Dr. Gerson received her MD/PhD from the University of Massachusetts. She completed residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship at Penn. Her laboratory conducts fundamental research exploring microbiome-metabolome interactions governing cervicovaginal epithelial barrier disruption and premature cervical remodeling in preterm birth. Her research has recently extended into the domain of environmental exposures in pregnancy and their role in modifying reproductive outcomes.

Jamaji C. Nwanaji-Enwerem, MD, PhD, MPP
Health Equity Presidential Assistant Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Nwanaji-Enwerem earned his PhD in the Harvard University Biological Sciences in Public Health program (Environmental Health concentration), his masters in public policy (MPP) from Harvard Kennedy School, and his MD from Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on molecular health biomarkers to improve our understanding of how chemical, physical, and social environmental exposures impact human aging and health. Dr. Nwanaji-Enwerem was recently appointed to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council.
