A new study led by a team of Penn researchers, including Drs. Holly Elser and Trevor Penning, finds that exposure to air pollution worsens Alzheimer’s disease

New research from Penn Medicine finds living in areas with high concentration of air pollution is associated with increased buildup of amyloid and tau proteins in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients, accelerating cognitive decline. Researchers found that for every increase of 1 microgram per cubic meter of PM2.5, the risk for worse AD amyloid and tau buildup increased by 19%.
