Translational Research Support Core

The mission of the Translational Research Support Core (TRSC) is to accelerate research in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) leading to improvements in clinical and population health outcomes. Services provided by the TRSC enable CEET investigators to perform research that impacts individuals and communities. The TRSC provides the following services: Human Study Design and Implementation Science Services; Environmental Exposure Services; Pre-clinical and Human Exposure Laboratories; Biostatistics Support; and access to Population-based Cohorts and Virtual Biorepository.

Core Services

Human Study Design and Implementation Science Services

These services provide CEET investigators with expertise in the design of studies to explore exposure measurement, multi-omics approaches, implementation science support for population-based studies, and resources for active recruitment and retention, data/biospecimen collection and management, study monitoring, and regulatory review.

Environmental Exposure Services

These innovative services will provide expertise in exposure assessment (“exposomics”) resources to support measurement at the level of the environment, exposures at the population, and individual level using state-of-the-art techniques in environmental sampling, participant level biosensors and biomarkers.

Pre-clinical and Human Exposure Laboratories

Established laboratories allow CEET investigators to perform controlled exposures of human subjects to air pollutants, in vivo or in vitro models to assess exposure to combustible cigarette and E-cigarette vapors and related exposures, and a high-dimensional Cytation Biotek plate reader to conduct imaging studies on toxicant exposed cells. These laboratories permit the study of specific hypotheses related to these exposures, discover new biomarkers of exposure and effect, and evaluate therapeutic and prevention interventions.

Biostatistics Support

This service supports analysis of pre-clinical studies, observational studies, clinical trials, with expertise in the design of multi-omics studies and statistical methods in modeling of exposure assessment and outcomes.

Access to Population-based Cohorts & CEET Virtual Biorepository

This service facilitates access to national and international population-based cohorts to create unique cohorts for investigators to answer important questions in diseases of environmental etiology. The CEET Virtual Biorepository provides investigators access to biospecimens derived from well-characterized research participants with a defined environmental exposure history, coupled to prospectively collected outcomes and comprehensive EHR data.

Service Request

Services provided by the TRSC enable CEET investigators to perform translational environmental health research that impacts individuals and communities. The TRSC will work collaboratively with the EHIC and the BMSC, to provide comprehensive support of research across our Thematic Areas and in the cross-cutting themes of exposomics and climate change and health, as well as partner with investigators, CEC members and community-based organizations.
