Affinity Group V: Exposure Science Affinity Group (ES)
Affinity Group Leader: Reto Gieré, PhD
Group Description
Aim: The affinity group in Exposure Science develops and uses data-gathering tools to measure changes in the external and internal environment that affect human health. It identifies pathways of human exposure and embraces “community exposomics” by conducting chemical analysis and environmental monitoring of water, air, and soil; cartographic modeling using GIS tools; and deploying biosensors and wearables in the field. It works closely with the Community Engagement Core. Members of the affinity group also pursue the development of new biosensors; the identification of biomarkers of exposure and effect (using the Translational Biomarker Core); the integration of exposomic data with other “omics” data (using the Exposure Biology Informatics Core); and the conduct of environmental epidemiology studies with links to Population Sciences Services of the Integrative Health Sciences Facility Core.
